The agri-industrial sector continues to be a key sector of the Ukrainian economy. On 16 July 2026, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reopened. The renewal of a separate specialized ministry will enable the implementation of a consistent state policy, as the agricultural sector covers crop production, livestock farming, processing, science and other areas, each of which requires a specialised approach. However, the main reason for the re-establishment of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy is European integration, as the agricultural sector accounts for around 30–40 per cent of legislative changes relating to European integration. This decision by the Parliament of Ukraine to reinstate the Ministry will form the basis for the country’s effective preparations for joining the European Union.
Meanwhile, on 14 July, the official launch of the sixth cluster of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU took place in Brussels. The further development of relations between Ukraine and the EU is based on the principles of political association and economic integration.
The beginning of July – the harvest of early cereals and legumes began. At the same time, there is lively discussion at national conferences about increasing buckwheat cultivation in Ukraine, as well as its processing into groats.
Consequently, demand for processing equipment for cereals and legumes is growing. One of the leading Ukrainian suppliers of such equipment, «AGRO-SIMO-MASHBUD» company, has won several tenders on the international market and signed contracts to supply for the following:
- Oats flakes processing line to Bulgaria;
- Lentils processing line to Germany;
- Flour-mill equipment to Latvia;
- Lentils processing line to Czech Republic.
For the agricultural sector, grain processing offers the opportunity not only to sell grain, but also to produce goods with significantly higher added value and to access more profitable markets. The sale of value-added products usually generates a higher income than the sale of unprocessed grain. This is borne out by the experience of many countries, where the development of the processing sector has become one of the key drivers of growth in food exports and domestic production.
Today, analysts are revising their forecast for Ukraine’s 2026 harvest growth. At the same time, Ukrainian grain exports are facing difficulties due to the ongoing attacks on ports, which, in turn, is driving demand for domestic processing.
