May 8 – Memorial and Victory Day

Dear friends! Today we are honoring the Day of Memory and Victory over nazism in World War II!

It is a complex mixture of feelings — ranging from grief for those who gave their lives to gratitude for the victory over the enemy of humanity: nazism. The heart sinks at the horrifying reality of how many lives were lost for this victory. How many heroes and ordinary people have died in the fight against the dark forces of evil! This knowledge is an emotionally difficult but inestimable treasure. We remember history and understand that what is most valuable are human life, the right to breathe and joy in the sun and the sky, and, of course, peace.

The memory of victory in that war as a clear and valuable reminder that good must always triumph! But for this to happen, humanity must always reign in our hearts! And justice, respect, and empathy must prevail and become the foundation of our world. Today we are fighting for this — for our lives and for peace on our land.

We honor the memory of those who gave their lives for victory in World War II. We are grateful to everyone who helped to secure a future for us. We remember and honor them. And we believe in victory and freedom.
