IFAD

Ukraine’s application to join IFAD as a Member State was endorsed by IFAD’s Governing Council in 2023. Ukraine will be fully integrated in IFAD’s next funding cycle. The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is an international financial institution and a specialised agency of the United Nations that works to address poverty and hunger in rural areas of developing countries. It is the only multilateral development organization, that focuses solely on rural economies and food security. IFAD has 177 member states.

The press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine informs that on February 15, at the annual session of IFAD, a decision was made on the membership of Ukraine. Membership of Ukraine in the Fund will provide an opportunity for Ukrainian agricultural producers to receive affordable financial resources, support the agricultural sector of Ukraine and the international image of our state as one of the largest producers and exporters of agricultural products in the world market and an active participant in global efforts to combat hunger.

This interest and active position from world community is explained by this fact that agrarian Ukraine is a significant component in the global agricultural market, and remains a reliable partner in the global community, despite the hostilities.

Yes, last year hit the Ukrainian agricultural sector painfully. However, in general, for 11 months of 2022, Ukraine exported 50.9 million tons of agricultural and food industry products for a total of $21.1 billion. Including by sea, with the mediation of the UN and Turkey, as well as thanks to the efforts of Ukrainian diplomats, it was possible to export more than 15 million tons of food, primarily grain. Ukrainian agrarians completed the last year with dignity.

For example, as of January 12, 2023, agricultural workers harvested 50.97 million tons of grain with a yield of 47 centners per hectare (cereals and legumes were harvested on an area of 10.9 million hectares, which is 94% of the plan). And already, according to the data as of January 27, 2023, 52.6 million tons of grain and leguminous crops were harvested from 11.1 million hectares (96% of the total crop area) with a yield of 47.6 centners/ha.

According to the figures of Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, farmers have harvested:

    • wheat - 20,2 million tons with a yield of 40,5 centners per hectare on an area of 4,98 million hectares (100% of the total crop area);
    • corn - 25,2 million tons with a yield of 66,5 centners per hectare on an area of 3,8 million hectares (90% of the total crop area);
    • buckwheat - 158,5 thousand tons with a yield of 13,7 centners per hectare on an area of 116 thousand hectares (98% of the total crop area);
    • millet - 101,8 5 thousand tons with a yield of 22,8 centners per hectare on an area of 44,7 thousand hectares (99% of the total crop area);
    • barley - 5,8 million tons of barley with a yield of 34,7 centners per hectare on an area of 1,7 million hectares (100% of the total crop area);
    • pea - 269 thousand tons with a yield of 22,8 centners per hectare on an area of 118 thousand hectares (100% of the total crop area).

And also the sunflower harvest was completed. This culture was processed on an area of 4,8 million hectares (99% of the total crop area), it was harvested 10,5 million tons of seeds with a yield of 21,7 centners per hectare.

Ukrainians have integrated all their efforts to get out of the most difficult situation in the agricultural market and not only, which began with the arrival of Russian invaders to our land. Successfully completed a difficult military agricultural year. Our country was able to provide itself with food, export products to more than 40 countries of the world, and also replenish its strategic reserves. Despite everything, we continue to work and overcome all obstacles.

We are Ukrainians and we are proud of it!
