Work on developing cooperation with India

Negotiations have begun on the conclusion of a free trade Agreement between Ukraine and India. On august 2024, The Governments of Ukraine and the Republic of India have already signed already an Agreement on Cooperation in Agriculture and Food Industry.

At the end of September 2025, the global situation escalated against the backdrop of US duties on Indian goods and India's unexpected reaction to the entry into force of these duties. Taking into account global politics and the situational closeness between India and China, Ukrainian diplomacy has picked up a clear signal: it is necessary to urgently develop channels of communication with New Delhi.

The Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, for its part, is preparing a package of proposals to liberalise access for Ukrainian goods to Indian markets on the one hand, and for Indian goods to Ukrainian markets on the other. The purposes of the Agreement are to expand mutually beneficial cooperation, create favourable conditions for market relations and increase national food security and increase in non-raw material exports.

Many leading Ukrainian companies are joining the project. Taking into account that India is the world's largest producer and consumer of legumes, holding first place in this segment, technological lines for processing legumes (peas, lentils and other crops) may be of particular interest.
